Can you access a JumpBox via FTP?

WARNING: This documentation is out of date. All up to date documentation is now in the JumpBox Wiki All relevant documentation has been ported to the wiki and is updated there. These FAQs are here strictly for historical reasons.

A common question is how do I access a JumpBox using FTP? JumpBoxes don’t contain standard FTP support, but when registered they do contain SFTP which is functionally equivalent and much more secure. Many FTP tools now have support for SFTP alongside standard FTP.

To use SFTP you first need to register and then follow the tutorial on enabling SSH/SFTP for a 1.1 JumpBox (old JumpBox Platform).

Once that’s done you can point your SFTP enabled FTP tool at the IP address for your JumpBox and login using the ‘admin’ user.

If you’re looking to upload themes or plugins for the application you’ll typically find the application installed somewhere under /var/data/. From there, you’ll need to refer to the documentation for the specific application to see where the files should be uploaded.

Free SFTP Programs
There are a variety of SFTP programs, or clients. Anything that says it can do SFTP specifically should work but if you need a suggestion please see the following list of popular free clients.
