Backup (destination = Mac)

All JumpBox applications have the ability to do backups to an external file system. Backups can be run on demand or scheduled at various frequencies and will make a copy of all application data (including that which resides in both the database and the file system for the application). Backups require that you first register the JumpBox. The tutorial demostrates how you backup the data from a JumpBox to a Macintosh computer.

  1. Before executing a backup, you need to first tell it where to store the data. This can (and should) be a different machine from the one which is hosting the JumpBox. Go to the destination Mac and open the system prefs panel and click the sharing icon.

  2. Click the checkbox to enable "Windows File Sharing." Note the IP address of the machine and the share name (part after the forward slash).

  3. Now open a web browser and navigate to the JumpBox admin control panel and click the "Backups" icon.

  4. Choose the Samba option, enter the IP address of the machine, the share name in the path field and the user credentials. Set the frequency of backups or use the "never" option if you just want to run backup on demand and specify how many versions you want it to keep. Click "Configure Backups" to commit these changes.

  5. Provided that you entered the proper connect settings, you should see a success message indicating that backups are now configured. If you wish to manually create a backup now, click the "Run Backup" button.

If you get an error message, can you ping the destination machine? Do you have the user credentials correct?

  6. You'll see a "Backup finished" message indicating that your data has been backed up successfully. Note that this is a backup of your application data only. Because a JumpBox is a true virtual appliance, in the event of a data loss, you can simply download a new JumpBox and restore using your last backup. You can see a list of all your existing backup files via the Restore link at the top of the page.

Don't work

I run Mac OSX 10.5 (Leopard). SMB activated. Path /vtiger. But I get the message "Unable to connect mount point". What's to do?
