GAPENgine 0.9.1 InstallSubmitted by andiih on Sun, 06/01/2008 - 3:10pm.I'm trying to install gapengine 0.9.1 on vmware. With Bridged networking the Jumpbox displays JumpBox Nmae: gapengine 0.9.1 so it looks to me like it sees the network device, but is unable to get an IP address. If I switch to NAT then it works fine, but I cant see it from other machines on the network other than the host (and I dont want to work from there) Any thoughts ? |

Do you have a DHCP server on your local network? In bridged mode it should get a DHCP lease from the local DHCP server. If one is unavailable, you can set a static IP address on the console.
If you do have a DHCP server then there could be a problem with bridged mode on your host vmware installation. Or you can try tossing that one out and unzipping and booting it again.

Humm, further
Humm, further experimentation and I think you are right - I have bridged network issues if the jumpbox is not the first VM started in bridged mode - in fact I couldn't even set a static IP in bridged mode. Weird. Starting the jumpbox 1st and (say) a windows VM second, it's fine, and can even be restarted. Seems only to be the jumpbox that is affected that way though. Oh well, working now anyway. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for letting me know. These problems annoy me since they are so far out of the realm of things I can fix. We have encountered occasional strange problems caused by the host networking and virtualization layers. I guess this is just another instance.
