How do I expose the BB to the internet?

Hello, I am new to virtual appliances. I downloaded the JumpBox for phpBB and installed. It booted up fine (I am using VMware). I was able to connect to the BB successfully using IE on a private IP address.

My next step is to expose it to the internet. How do I do that?

(I connected to the internet while NOT behind a firewall and tried to use IE to contact the BB. I typed the EXTERNAL IP address into IE (http://ExternalIP/) but I was unable to connect. I thought I would be able to. I am forgetting to do something, obviously. After I can successfully connect when I am NOT behind a firewall, then I will tackle the task of connecting when I AM behind a firewall.)

If anyone could point me to some instructions somewhere on how to do that, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

How do I expose the trac to the internet

Is Trac JumpBox in bridged mode and has a publicly routable IP address? In general this should work though there are environmental issues that could cause problems.

By default the Trac JumpBoxes network interface should be bridged with the hosts network interface and you should be able to contact it with no issue. Another possibility is that when you installed VMWare you bridged it with the wrong network interface. Do you have other virtual machines running on this host that you can access?

Yes Trac JumpBox in bridged mode and has a publicly routable IP address because I can ping the IP address

I will check with my hosting company if the Trac JumpBoxes network interface is bridged with the hosts network interface. They asked me for the Trac MAC address.

No I do not have other virtual machines running on this host.

Yes Trac JumpBox in bridged

Ok, something is wrong here and I don't think I understand the situation well enough to offer advice. If the JumpBox is configured to bridge its network device with the hosts network device that is actually connected to the network manually setting the IP address on the JumpBox console should work.

There are a few places where this can go wrong. First off, there can occasionally be an issue when the host has multiple interfaces and vmware is set up to bridge to the wrong interface, (e.g. the network card that doesn't have a cable plugged into it). Another situation that I can imaging happening in a hosted environment is that the IP address you were allocated by your hosting company has already been assigned to your leased server and that host is actually responding to the pings rather than the JumpBox. In linux if you type ifconfig on the host you may see a bunch of interfaces ... eth0, eth0:1, eth0:2, eth0:3 ... where one of those aliased network interfaces is configured with the IP address that you have told your JumpBox to use. You would have to disable the host eth alias that has the IP address and then the bridged JumpBox would work.

Like I said, your situation is not clear enough for me to quite understand what is going wrong.

How do I expose trac vm appliance to the internet?

I am have similar problems. I have a dedicated server on the internet and have jumbox trac with a license running but I can not access it from the internet. I have gone to the admin and network configuration and configured trac with the assigned IP address given to me by my hosting company and I still cannot reach trac. How do I configure jumbox vm appliance to be accessible on the internet?

I'm not quite sure of the

I'm not quite sure of the situation. If you're not behind a router, the JumpBox should automatically be accessible via all the IP addresses associated with the machine. When you say you can't make a connection, what do you mean? Were you able to go through the initial setup process.

How do I expose the BB to the internet

I have one external address.

When I attempted to connect the first time I was NOT behind a router. But, I was just trying to make a connection to the BB. When I really start running the BB it will be behind a router/firewall.

Quick question about your

Quick question about your environment:

You refer to external and internal IP addresses. Does your machine have two addresses, or are you behind a router?
