NAT IP

Hello,
I am evaluating the moodle jumpbox and am attmpting to make the application available on the internet. I have an internal address assigned to the Virtual Machine. I have a NAT firewall rule pointing a public IP to the internal IP. However, it appears that moodle has hardcoded urls that use the internal IP only. How do I/can I change this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
We have added a setting called the "Public Address" specifically for this situation. Check out the later half of the following tutorial:

Let me know how it works for you.

Wow- thanks for the quick reply. I guess this setting isn't available on my version of the Jumpbox. How do I go about upgrading? Or do I have to get the new verson of the Jumpbox and then export all of my test courses and settings and re-import into the new Jumpbox?

Thanks again,
Darius

The second one. That method allows you to verify that all of your information has moved safely to the new version before committing to it. I have looked at the manual alternative and it isn't really convenient.

Is your Moodle JumpBox registered?

My jumpbox is not registered. Again, I'm just evaluating it and, frankly, my biggest fear is the fact that it's built on a Linux OS and I have NO idea what/how to do anything with that OS. But I'm willing to overcome my fear go ahead and buy (register) if you can answer more questions.

If I register the jumpbox, will updates to the jumpox builds and versions work any differently i.e. better? How do I add new Moolde modules and updates? I'm not looking for anything in depth, just for a quick "Yep you can and here's how it works" type of thing.

Obviously my fear is that I get started down the moodle path and create loads of course material only to find out that some features need to be tweeked, updated, and added to make moodle really meet our needs- and I won't know how to do them because all I can do with Linux is spell it.

Thanks again,

Well, first off, our only upgrade path is through our backup/restore mechanism. We don't actually consider this "worse" than in place updates. This method allows you to try out the new version without disrupting or potentially harming your production site. You can restore to a new JumpBox and test until you are satisfied it works. Whereas with in-place updates reverting from a failed upgrade may be more of a challenge.

Here is our official statement on modules:
http://www.jumpbox.com/faq/plugins
There are no guarantees that a third party module or add-on will work, thats simply the nature of opensource software. For those who have purchased support we will try to help but can't make blanket guarantees. Those without support can use the forums which JumpBox personnel monitor but there is no guarantee of a response.

Will managing and tweaking Moodle on Windows be easier? Admittedly a JumpBox doesn't save a ton of effort on customization but it does serve as a common starting point, so providing help, writing documentation and sharing information based on a known quantity is much easier. Eventually, once our community grows bigger, I think this will be a big win.

Good luck and thanks for checking us out.
