Installation

Need some help! Watched your how to video and it seemed as though nothing could be simpler however I have a window XP box not apple or Linux and have tried everything I can think of to get Joomla up and running but nothing works.

I'm able to get an IP 192.168.56.101 but when entered into a browser it times out. Even tried a static IP but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to follow your video instructions. After I have added the disks I'm trying to add the IDE slave to the data.vmdk. My options are different and I can't figure out how to add another slot. Right now I have my Primary slot going to the root disk.
I am working on an Imac Intel machine.

I changed my network

I changed my network settings to a Bridged network and picked my adapter from the list and now it has given me a correct ip address that I can ping to. I also got to the setup page but upon filling in all the information and agreeing to the licence info it hands on "configuring the application-Please wait".

I noticed that when the Virtual box refreshed it how has a Https address also. Same as the other but with a port #

Will this ever configure correctly?

Aha VirtualBox, yes, it is not quite as smooth at configuring networking as some of the alternatives. You should just try going to http://IPADDRESS/ now. If the console message says that the JumpBox is configured (and now shows both the "Application Page" and "Management Page" URLS, then it should have completed setup.

I don't know why it wouldn't have appeared to complete in the browser. I would attribute it to VirtualBox networking issues.

Further to this I created a new VirtualBox and received a new IP address of 10.0.02.15 which isn't even close.

Hi,
There are a few different things you might try.

  • Have you tried a different browser?
  • Are you on a network and does the IP address 192.168.56.101 seem appropriate for that network?
  • Could you try typing this into the URL bar
      http://192.168.56.101/initial_setup
  • Can you ping the JumpBox from the XP command prompt? 
      ping 192.168.56.101

If none of those work, tell me a little more about your setup. What browser are you using? What virtualization software?

Thanks for getting to me Austin. I have tried different browsers. I am on a home network and the 192.168.56.101 sounds reasonable except for the .56. The default gateway is 192.168.1.1 and I have DHCP starting at .100.
Tried the initial_setup and it also timed out. Tried pinging and it times out also.

I'm using Sun Virtual Box and have it configured as follows.
General tab->advanced with Enable VT-X/AMD-V checked
Hard disks
IDE Primary Master = root.vmdk normal 1.50 GB
IDE Primary Slave = data.vmdk normal 10.00 GB

Network
PCnet-FAST III (Am79C973)
Host-only Adapter
VirtualBox Host-only Ethernet adapter

Not sure what to do next.
