it seems i can't create an account on joomla. if i try and create one it tells me i'm already registered, which should mean i have created one already [?]. if i ask for a new password it won't send me one. what am i doing wrong?

You should try logging into joomla as the admin user, using the password you chose during JumpBox setup.
