You can use the JumpBox backup and restore mechanism for vTiger between these two releases (0.9 and RC2) safely. I can't say this will always work but I have tested it in this case. There is one caveat. I came across a bug in the restore code that we have fixed and will be released with RC3. So you will have to perform the following work around.
You will need your old 0.5 vTiger JumpBox and your new RC2 JumpBox and they will BOTH have to be booted and registered.
The whole procedure should be:
Configure the 0.5 to backup to a network share.
Manually run a backup
DO WORKAROUND
Configure the RC2 to restore from the same backup share.
Select the backup with the appropriate date, type in the new admin password and click "Restore"
Your vTiger data should now be imported into the new version. If you have made any manual changes by SSHing into the JumpBox you may have to redo those changes to the new JumpBox.
The WORKAROUND is this:
On you network share from above rename the backup file to remove the period in the version number so that it looks like this: jb-vTiger-09-20070430095245.tgz instead of this: jb-vTiger-0.9-20070430095245.tgz
On future releases this workaround won't be necessary.

Suggestions on Migrating Data
Does anyone have any easy way to migrate data from the 0.9 release to the new RC?
