Alfresco Jumpbox 1.1.10 crashes under load
I have set up more than 10 Alfresco 1.1.10 Jumpboxes over the last few weeks; each one fails when loaded with production sized data. Dat is loaded via FTP to 'Site'. Once the system crashes the console screen seems to dump out Ruby code (.rb). The console cannot be accessed. The VM can be IP pinged but as the console crashes you cannot administer anything. Same thing on VMware ESXi 4.0 and the new VMware ESXi 4.1 hosts. Tried increasing data disk size 100% (as per Jumpbox guide) same fault when loaded. Tried increasing RAM to 1024, 2048 etc and CPU from 1 through 4; same fault and used different VMWare ESX host servers.
I am trying to determine if this is a bug in the Jumpbox or Alfresco itself. The data load is around 5Gb of mixed files Word/PDF etc etc. Either way I have not found Alfresco Jumpbox 1.1.10 to be reliable under load testing. Any ideas appreciated.

Sounds like you are running out of memory. What does the ESXi console say about memory and CPU usage? What if you load the data in smaller chunks? I will try to reproduce here, and I think there are a few logfiles we can take a look at. I don't recall the exact paths.

Increased RAM seems to be the answer
I have tested with 4GB RAM - holding up well so far. Looks like RAM is the Achilles Heel for Alfresco. I will post again after soak testing.

RAM tends to be the Achilles heal of anything. All JumpBoxes ship with somewhat modest resource allocations by design. This allows more users to make use of them. Those with greater needs can simply allocate more resources. Something like this, where its a bulk load, you might just need that extra RAM for this operation and under normal operation it might only need a couple GB. But this is dependent entirely on your usage scenario.

RAM is the key here
Thanks for confirming; load tests holding up well now with 4Gb RAM; 40Gb Data store and 2 CPU. Guess it needed the memory to bulk load with FTP.
Memory on Alfresco 1.1.10
Base memory is for the Jumpbox at 760Mb is certainly strapped - I tried 1024, and 2048. I have not set larger yet (but could retest) No real issues shown in VMWare RAM but CPU started to creep up to around 70-80% when under load. I will try loading data in smaller chunks too but it seemed to me to be the aggregate data that caused the fail. One set of VMs I set to 50Gb disk 2 (data) using the approved method. It played up at around 28% full. I will look at VM memory again.
