Unable to use mediawiki after installation and configuration of the VMWare appliance

I can't see any related topic in the forum so I guess I did something wrong but..

I unpacked the Jumpbox mediawiki VM on a VMWare server and ran it up.

Using the URL http://ip_address/ immediately redirected to https://ip_address:3000/ to set up the server which I did. However, the original url still redirects to the admin page and I can't find a way to fix it.

How do I get to the front-end (mediawiki)?

Unfortunately, I can't get a shell without registering (or hacking into it) in order to fix it myself.

And again when I posted this :-)

Nasty failure when posting the above reply BTW.

I got this returned when I posted the above reply..

* user warning: Table './drupal/watchdog' is marked as crashed and should be repaired query: INSERT INTO watchdog (uid, type, message, severity, link, location, referer, hostname, timestamp) VALUES (1531, 'content', 'Comment: added Fixed.', 0, 'view', 'http://www.jumpbox.com/comment/reply/338/532', 'http://www.jumpbox.com/comment/reply/338/532', 'xxx.xxx.xx.xxx', 1185428634) in /{full_directory_path}/database.mysqli.inc on line 151.

The post worked (I didn't have to re-post it) but you might want to turn off "errors to the browser" to prevent some serious information leakage..

Unable to use mediawiki after installation and configuration of

I am assuming you are using the 1.0 release and no errors were reported after going through the setup process?

Have you tried unzipping a fresh copy and going through the setup process again? We have sometimes seen problems if you accidentally hit reload or back or something like that during the setup process.

Let me know if the problem is persistent with a fresh JumpBox.

Austin

I have the same problem

I have the same problem here.. I unzipped a fresh copy (of the mediawiki 1.0 release) and did the setup dance under vmware (on Ubuntu), but after waiting a looong time at the "Configuring application", I got this:

Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request GET /appsetup/finish_app_setup/mediawiki.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

After this, and it not being responsive anymore, I sent a Ctrl-Alt-Del through the vmware-console and let it boot up. When accessing the IP, I get thrown into the admin-page.

I have already tried unzipping it again and redoing it all over, but to no avail...

Any clues?

Fixed. MTU-problem.

It was a MTU-problem.. I am on a PPPoE DSL-line and the mediawiki-setup procedure tried to contact www.jumpbox.com, but got no full answer.. The TCP-session was etstablished but no returning data got through. I manipulated the MSS-size in my Cisco-router (ip tcp adjust-mss) and it got through...

This is a 'bug' if you ask me.. there are probably some safeguards in place in case there is no internet-connection available.. but what if the internet-connection is "malfunctioning" like in the MTU-problem scenario?

Wow, thats a real

Wow, thats a real drag.

Realistically it is very hard to accommodate every possible environmental quirk. But given that one of our goals is to achieve a simple and pleasant user experience something like this is really bad. The little statistics gathering we do might be taken out at this point anyway. This will at least give us reason to take a long hard look at this.

Thanks for your feedback.

Austin

Fixed

Yep, that was it.

Once you submit the "setup" page, you need to wait it out. The barbers pole stops spinning (firefox 2.0.0.5) and it looks frozen.

I guess I was too impatient to wait it out the first time round.

Thanks.
