Does the Jumpbox Mediawiki include email functionality?

I ask this as email functionality is required for users to be able to reset their own passwords, and is also nice for page watching etc.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

At this point the 850 MB

At this point the 850 MB limit is a hard limit. We do not yet provide a convenient mechanism to grow disks. This is fairly difficult since a JumpBox is designed to work across several virtualization platforms and we don't have control over the environment external to the JumpBox. Of course, it is a Linux machine and you could add disks and move things around on your own if you felt so inclined. We just haven't gotten to that feature set yet :)

As far as importing, this first JumpBox release has really been biased towards "fresh starts" as opposed to importing existing data. We have managed to help people get things imported and running in several cases but if you require lots of additional plugins you might run into trouble.

Our goal is ease of use and once you start adding additional constraints we start straying from that. As time goes on we will be able to better accomodate a larger range of possibilities. Realistically, anything can be worked out, its just a matter of how much work the user wants to do. I have been surprised and pleased at the broad audience we seem to have.

Good Luck,

Available Storage Space

Thanks for the prompt reply again.

I assume that there is the facility to expand the 850Mb of data storage available on the Wiki once it has been registered? Otherwise I have used some 3rd party tools before to resize VMWare virtual machines and am wondering if this would also work on the jumpbox? ... the software is at home so i don't have access to it right now to post the name ...

I have looked at the MediaWiki site before for information on how to backup / transfer a Wiki and hope that it ends up being a painless process. I can esaily back up the image files and export from my current Wiki - it's the MySQL side of things that I am not so experienced with - plus until i register I won't be able to see how that is handled in Jumpbox.

You're the big winner! No

You're the big winner! No one has asked that yet, I like it when people ask new questions. You have about 850MB of data space on a fresh MediaWiki JumpBox. There is an Export/Import feature that lets you put a list of pages in to dump. That gives you an XML file which you can then import. See the "Special Pages" link on the bottom left of your MediaWiki JumpBox. MediaWiki probably has some docs on this as well (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Backing_up_a_wiki). I don't think this method will get any uploaded media files.

Also, there are some command line tools, mentioned in the above link, but to use them on the JumpBox would require you to register.

Good Luck

Thanks very much for your

Thanks very much for your reply - I just loaded up a Jumpbox and confirmed that the email functionality works fine on the network here.

My next step is to figure out how to transfer my current wiki to the jumpbox.

What is the maximum size limit of the mediawiki jump box?

MediaWiki Email

Hi Doa,
This is a tricky question since there are factors external to the JumpBox that impact it. By default, the MediaWiki JumpBox, and all JumpBoxes will send email. But your Internet Service Provider MAY block those messages.

For example, at home, I have cable modem, and the provider blocks outbound traffic on port 25 (this is done to prevent spam), but at work, where we have DSL, the ISP does not block that traffic. So my JumpBoxes at home would not be able to send email by default, but the ones at work can.

There are ways to resolve this and I can help you do so. But at this point, it requires that you register the JumpBox and log into it via SSH. In the future we hope to add this setting in our Administration Interface.
