Performance of Jumpbox as web host

Would a Jumpbox be advisable to run on a co-located host? Any performance limits or extra security problems different from a standard Linux hosting?

You would just want to make

You would just want to make sure you keep it updated as you would your typical Ubuntu Linux machine (http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_dapper#How_to_manually_update_Ubuntu). Until we have an integrated JumpBox update mechanism this will be a must.

If your site is very busy the apache and mysql binlogs might not rotate quick enough for you so your disk may fill up. So you might want to change those settings, let me know if you want to know how. The data disk has about 800 MB free. You may also consider increasing the amount of RAM allocated to the JumpBox as well as attaching a spare disk (if you are using VMware) just in case you do grow too fast. Really, the biggest problem we have had was the disk being a little tight, forcing us to be a little more vigilant with the logs.

Lastly, as of 1.0 there is no convenient way to set static IP addresses. You would have to get a DHCP address then change it to static. There are some workarounds to this, but 1.0.1 will be release soon, very soon, and has the ability to set static IP addresses on the console, thus removing this barrier.

We have been doing this for many months for several sites and things have been working well.

Good Luck
